Apartment Set-Up Purpose: In collaboration with WRS volunteers, interns, and/or staff use donated Welcome Kits or household items to set-up a newly arrived refugees’ first home in America!


  • ASU’s can take 2-3 hours, including drive time to and from the apartment.

  • May include moving of small furniture items and light cleaning of the apartment.


  • High degree of patience, understanding, and flexibility

  • Attend “Volunteer Information Session” prior to starting service

  • Attend “Good Neighbor EQUIP Training” within 1 month of starting service

  • Record and report monthly volunteer hours served, as detailed in the Volunteer Interview

  • Pass Federal Background Check; and if transporting, driving record check

  • No previous cross-cultural experience required!

The first step in becoming a WRS Volunteer is to attend one of our monthly Volunteer Information Sessions (VIS). These sessions are meant to give you an introduction to refugee resettlement and volunteer opportunities. After attending the information session, all volunteers must complete an application and background checks before starting.
