Befriending Refugees

When it comes to befriending a new family, the role of volunteers is simple, rewarding, and foundational for the success of every other aspect of resettlement. As friends of the new family, volunteers (specifically those in a relational volunteer opportunity such as Good Neighbors) can share meals, invite them to parties and special events, spend time learning about each others cultures, and exploring the city together. Many refugee cultures are very warm and strongly value hospitality...and many of them view time management differently than the average American as well.

Links for the following pages are provided and will hopefully guide volunteers to developing healthly and long lasting relationships with refugees.
