Car Seats

Many newly arriving refugee children have never been in a car seat so it is extremely important that new families not only utilize car seats but that they know how to install them properly. Car seats are vital for children's safety but there is also an extremely costly fine ($475) if a child is found not properly secured in a car.

As part of the Cooperative Agreement, World Relief Sacramento will provide new age appropriate car seats for all arriving children. WRS is not however responsible to provide car seats for any additional children born after arrival or new car seats if the children outgrow the ones provided.

Safe Kids Greater Sacramento will provide one free car seat to eligible families after they complete a mandatory 2 hour class. Families will need to show proof of need with WIC, Healthy Families, Medi-Cal, or EBT card.  Safe Kids will also help train families on proper car seat installation.

Arcade Community Center through Mutual Assistance offers a car seat safety class in Dari. If a family attends the educational workshop, they will receive a free car seat for their children. Registration is mandatory as space and resources are limited.

UC Davis Trauma Prevention and Outreach also provides helpful safety car seat information and resources.
