VESL Classroom Aide

Vocational ESL or VESL Classroom Aides assist our VESL Instructor as they teach English to adult refugees and immigrants.

 

TIME COMMITMENT 

  • Minimum 1 day per week Monday through Thursday for 10 weeks.

  • Classes are held from 9:00am - 12:30pm at the World Relief Sacramento Training Center located in North Highlands.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must exercise high degree of patience, understanding, flexibility and self-awareness.

  • Must be able to take initiative and work with different level English learners. 

  • Record and report monthly volunteer hours served via Track-It-Forward. 

 

VOLUNTEER APPLICATION STEPS

  • The first step in becoming a volunteer with World Relief Sacramento is to submit a volunteer application. 

  • Once you submit an application, a World Relief representative will contact you with information to register for a required 4-hour Volunteer Training held once a month. This training is meant to give you an introduction into refugee resettlement as well as introduce our guiding volunteer principles.

  • After attending, all volunteers must discuss final placement with a Volunteer Coordinator and complete a background check in addition to clearing two references.

Through the utilization of arts and crafts, we focus on factors affecting integration such as English learning, skill building and connection to the wider receiving community

 

TIME COMMITMENT 

  • Minimum 1 day per week for 8 weeks or 2 days per week for 4 weeks.

  • Classes are held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00am - 12:00pm in an apartment located near our office in North Highlands.  The women who attend the classes all live in the apartment complex and are within walking distance to the class.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Given the relational nature of this volunteer role, a willingness and desire to make and maintain relationships with the women is essential.  Because relationships take time to grow, a commitment to building bonds that will continue outside of the class is highly encouraged.
