Sacramento World Refugee Day

Every year since 2000, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has recognized June 20th as World Refugee Day to highlight the refugees and displaced persons across the blog. Currently, with over 65 million displaced worldwide. This is an unprecedented number - surpassing the devastation of World War II. Sacramento has had the honor of welcoming more than 10,000 refugees over the last 4 years, directly responding the largest humanitarian crisis of our generation.

This year we are doing something we've never done before. To celebrate and raise awareness for World Refugee Day, we have teamed up with the Sacramento Republic FC and the Sacramento Food Bank to host a refugee soccer tournament and community carnival.

Our goal is to bring together the refugee community and the Sacramento area to commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of refugees within our region and to celebrate Sacramento's response to the global refugee crisis.

Join us, Mayor Steinberg,  community leaders and refugee and immigrant advocates, friends and family and our World Relief Sacramento Staff.
